Whereas Ralph and Glenna Dee Jones have been leaders of the downtown business owners for many years and have individually served as its Chairman man times; and

Whereas Ralph and Glenna Dee Jones purchased their first Second Avenue property in the early 80's and Glenna Dee Jones now owns and carefully maintains six properties in downtown Decatur; and

Whereas Ralph and Glenna Dee Jones completed renovations of 207 Second Avenue in 1988, 209 Second Avenue in 1990, and 211 Second Avenue in 1989; and

Whereas Glenna Dee Jones continues the work they started and is currently working to renovate the property at 206 Second Avenue; and

Whereas after a fire gutted 207 and 209 Second Avenue in 2006 Ralph and Glenna Dee Jones choose to restore the buildings at 207 and 209 Second Avenue with painstaking attention to detail and respect for the historic significance of these buildings; and

Whereas for the significant contributions and dedicated service to the downtown and more particularly  Second Avenue Ralph and Glenna Dee Jones should be duly recognized;

Now Therefore Be It Resolved by the City Council of the city of Decatur, Alabama, with the wholehearted support of the Mayor that the park to be located at 109 Second Avenue, SE be known as the Ralph and Glenna D. Jones Park in honor of Glenna Dee Jones and in memory of Ralph Jones.

Be It Further Resolved that the Mayor is requested and authorized to facilitate the erection of appropriate signage designating the name of the park on Second Avenue.
